As in most racing yards around the country, it is somewhat the calm before the storm here at David Dennis Racing.
With no racing now for three days there is chance to prepare for runners that will be out over the festive period whilst taking time to reflect on some of the highlights of 2015, the first of which we didn’t have to wait too long for and came in the form of a four timer across the country where Lucky Jim & Maller Tree notched up a double at Huntingdon, Anginola battled well to win at Plumpton and Wade Harper won a bumper at Market Rasen with ease.
Steel Summit created many highlights of his own for owners Rose Farm Developments (UK) Ltd & Partner throughout the year as he notched up an impressive 6 wins in just 6 months between last years Boxing Day when he was part of a double at Huntingdon along with Cyclop and June 2015. Roman Flight was also amongst the winners in 2015 when landing two races including his chasing debut on his latest start at Uttoxeter back in July.
Another to gain victory on multiple occasions was Favourites Racing’s Retro Valley who after 3 wins on the flat took to his hurdling with aplomb winning a further two contests over obstacles throughout 2015. The 3yo looks like having a very bright future ahead of him. Syndicate ‘The Lucky Seven’ will remember their highlight of the year as The Big Dipper supplied them with a first victory with a win over hurdles at Southwell in September to add to his many placed runs and no doubt their Christmas wish will be for another few wins yet!
Another that made the switch easily from the flat to hurdling in 2015 was 9yo Set The Trend who won three times in as many months and was placed a further twice from just six starts and appears to love his new found National Hunt career.
Horses on the flat that excelled in 2015 were two 2yo’s by Showcasing, Show Me Again & Danecase. The former was a winner on his racecourse debut under Timmy Murphy at Nottingham in June before another win at Chelmsford City in November. Danecase on the other hand took a couple of runs to warm to his task but won well on the third time of asking and both horses look to be smart individuals going into their 3yo season.
More recent achievements as the National Hunt season proper got under way in the Autumn, came from the likes of Doctor Phoenix, Cyclop and Final Nudge. Doctor Phoenix has been a winner of four races this year over both hurdles and fences and ran well last time out in December at the International meeting at Cheltenham in the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup. Cyclop has taken to chasing well this season and despite always running well and trying his best, won last time out by an impressive 14 lengths for only the first time since last Boxing Day and he will be out again over Christmas this year.
Final Nudge has also been responsible for some of the yards 2015 highlights notching up three wins this year with a bumper win and two victories over hurdles and ran a career best race last time out at Cheltenham in December when runner up in the Grade 2 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle.
So now we look forward to racing over the Christmas period where we have many entries across the country. Our sole Boxing Day declaration is Anginola at Market Rasen but there will be lots of other runners in the coming couple of weeks to include Rebel Benefit, Cyclop, Godsmejudge, Norse Light and the exciting Deauville Dancer & Wade Harper amongst others.
We have had a fantastic 2015 here at David Dennis Racing and would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our owners, staff, sponsors and all connections for all of their continued support throughout the year and may 2016 be even better!
