Well what a day Friday was for us here at David Dennis Racing.
We had our first ever runner at Cheltenham racecourse in the giftofracing.co.uk Conditional Jockeys Handicap Hurdle in Roman Flight and we brought home a winner!
Roman Flight is a super consistent 6yo by Antonius Pius and was given a superb ride by yard conditional Shane Quinlan.
Shane is just 19 and joined the yard only a month ago after riding out for Peter Fahey in Ireland previously. This ride was not only Quinlan’s first ride for David Dennis Racing but was his first in England having enjoyed one winner from just six rides back in Ireland.
The pair jumped off in mid division before creeping into the race quietly and taking up the running coming to the last. Despite a nod on landing at the final hurdle, Roman Flight battled on very gamely under a determined ride to get up by a head on the line from the Nicky Henderson trained Hammersly Lake.
It was a wonderful achievement not only from Roman Flight and Shane but from the whole team here at Tyre Hill Stables and it was fantastic to have a winner at Cheltenham and may it be the first of many.
Meanwhile 230 miles North at Redcar racecourse Angus Glens was taking part in a race for Lady Amateur riders over a trip of 1m2f ridden by Miss Georgina Friswell.
The pair were soon in command shortly after breaking from the stalls and Georgina gave Angus Glens a very positive ride to be beaten by less than 2 lengths in the end having lead for much of the race.
My Mo was our last runner of the day in the 8.50 at Wolverhampton under Keiren Fallon. This 2yo colt gave another solid display to finish 4th beaten only 4 1/4 lengths having finished runner up by the shortest of distances in his last two runs. He is one that definitely deserves to get his head in front very soon.
All in all we were delighted with the way all three horses ran and we look forward to many more runners this week.
